Iga Swiatek Eyes Third Consecutive Title at Roland-Garros, Potential Showdown with Coco Gauff in Semifinals

World No.1 Iga Swiatek, ultra-dominant on clay, could meet the American Coco Gauff (3rd), winner of the last US Open, in the semi-finals of Roland-Garros where the Pole will aim for a third consecutive title, the fourth in total, according to the draw made on Thursday. The other semi-final in the women’s draw could pit Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka (2nd), winner of the 2023 and 2024 Australian Open, against Kazakh Elena Rybakina (4th), winner of Wimbledon 2022.

Alizé Cornet will face the Chinese Qinwen Zheng, 8th in the world and finalist of the last Australian Open, in the first round, the final tournament of her career. Cornet (34) fell to 107th in the world this week and received an invitation to enter the main draw of her 20th Roland-Garros where she played in the round of 16 twice (2015 and 2017). She has not missed a single Grand Slam tournament since the 2007 Australian Open and will thus play her 69th Major in a row (record). She has played in the round of 16 at all four Grand Slam tournaments, reaching the quarterfinals once, at the Australian Open in 2022.
