In the first round of the elimination, the Latvians lost 0:2 (16:21, 12:21) to the Chinese pair Chen Xue/Xinyi Xia.

Graudiņa/Samoilova, seeded ninth in the tournament, previously lost in the group stage to main favorites Ana Patricia Ramos/Edouarda Lisboa (1:2), the world vice-champions of the home team (1:2), but continued with victories over the French duet Clemens Vieira/Alina Chamero (2:0) and the Germans Svenju Meller/Cinju Tillman (2:1).

The winners of the group immediately entered the quarter-finals, while the second and third place winners went to the first elimination round.

The “Elite 16” series tournaments are the highest level on the tour, where the strongest players compete. In the men’s competition, Latvia is not represented at the tournament in Brazil. The winners of the tournament in the Brazilian capital will be announced at the finals on Sunday, May 5.

In the beach volleyball tour, the participants accumulate points in the qualification ranking for the Olympic Games until June 9, where Graudiņa and Samoilova are high enough to feel safe in the fight for a ticket to Paris. 17 pairs of the Olympic Games tournament for both women and men will be determined by place.
