According to the English newspaper The Timesthe new offside rule proposed by FIFA’s head of global football development, Arsène Wengerwas approved in tests and will now be presented to Ifab (International Football Association Board), the entity that controls the rules of football in the world.

The new law proposes that an offside is only called if the attacker is 100% in front of the defender (see image above). If there is any part of the body on the same line, the irregularity will not be marked.

The idea was initially presented by Wenger in September last year. Now, around 10 months later and with the tests carried out, it will now be Ifab’s turn to take a stance.

The British daily says that, if approved, the novelty will cause the biggest rule change in offside in 30 years, bringing a “radical change” to football.

The vehicle also points out that the former coach of the Arsenal is convinced that the change will have a positive impact on the sport.

“There were concerns that the new law could cause a huge tactical change, giving attackers a huge advantage. However, Wenger was convinced that the tests carried out in Sweden, Italy and the Netherlands were positive,” he reported.

There is still no set deadline for Ifab to analyze the issue and decide whether the impediment law will undergo any changes.
