F1 free practice for the Monaco GP, live today: last minute and result for Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz in Monte Carlo

The first free practice sessions for the Monaco GP have had a very different tone from those we have seen so far. The Mercedes were surprising, with Lewis Hamilton setting the best time, while his teammate, George Russell, came third.

In his best lap, Hamilton covered the 3,337 meters of the shortest, narrowest and slowest circuit on the calendar in one minute, 12 seconds and 169 thousandths, 29 less than the Australian Oscar Piastri (McLaren) and with an advantage of 126 over the another Mercedes, that of his compatriot George Russell; which marked the third period of the session.

Fernando Alonso finished sixth and Carlos Sainz, tenth. Both will have the opportunity to improve their feelings starting at 5:00 p.m. in the second free practice session. Now, it remains to see what happens in free practice 2.
