Eventing Legend Willian Fox-Pitt Announces Retirement from Competitive Riding

Top eventing rider Willian Fox-Pitt announced last weekend that he will retire from eventing at the highest level. The eventing rider also confirmed that he will not compete for his place in Paris. “You can’t be greedy forever, right?” says the 55-year-old rider.

The rider does not plan to make a complete stop. He still wants to focus on further developing young horses. But from now on he will ignore the bigger competitions. “My mare, Grafenacht, will still compete in Badminton, among other things. She will have a new rider!” let Fox-Pitt know.

The Briton achieved an impressive list of achievements. He started 26 times in Badminton and is the record holder for winning a five-star eventing competition. He won Burghley six times and participated in the European Championship six times and won team gold at the 2010 World Cup.

He also represented his national colors five times at the Olympic Games.
