Drummondville Voltigeurs Suffer Second Loss at Memorial Cup Tournament

The Drummondville Voltigeurs suffered a second setback in 24 hours at the Memorial Cup tournament when they lost 4-3 on Sunday evening against the Spirit de Saginaw in front of a packed house of nearly 5,000 spectators gathered at the centre Dow de Saginaw.

The QMJHL representatives took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from Luke Woodworth and Peter Repcik. We thought we would see the Voltigeurs from the last playoff series again.

The Spirit tied the game in the second before Justin Côté gave the Voltigeurs the lead in the last minute of play. The host city’s representatives then scored the only two goals of the third to escape with victory, their second in two games at the tournament.

Riley Mercer stopped 27 shots in front of the net for the Voltigeurs who shot Andrew Oke 24 times.

On Monday evening, Mosse Jaw will face London. The next day, the Voltigeurs, also beaten on Saturday evening, will try to stay alive when they face the Warriors.
