Czech Republic’s Petr Mrazek Apologizes for Striking Opponent, Gives Away Signed Stick

The Czech Republic opened the tournament with a 1-0 bullpen victory over Finland on Friday, and Anaheim Ducks goaltender Lukas Dostal made 21 of 21 saves. On the other hand, Mrāzek managed only eight of eleven shots against the Norwegians and also stood out with a long pass over the forehead of the representative of the Norwegian national team on the visiting bench. After the match, Mrazek apologized and gave away his stick.

Mrazek is participating in his third world championship and helping the Czech national team after a seven-year break. Born and raised in Ostrava, Mrazek has been playing in North America since 2009 and has also represented Detroit Red Wings, Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes and Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League, playing a total of 390 games in the league. This season, Mrāzekas played 56 matches, saved 90.8% of shots and allowed an average of 3.05 innings.

The Czech Republic will play its next match tomorrow against Switzerland.
