Clara Azurmendi Secures Spot in Semifinals of Mexican International Challenge

Good news comes from the Mexican International Challenge, as Clara Azurmendi has sealed her place in the semifinals and this Saturday she will fight to get into the final. The San Sebastian native has confirmed her good feelings by defeating the Peruvian Fernanda Munar and meets the Canadian Chloe Hoang.

Azurmendi beat Munar with authority (21-12 and 21-7) in just 21 minutes. Although it is true that the Peruvian tried to take the initiative in the early stages of the match, the Spaniard did not allow her to get away on the scoreboard and, once she took the lead, she dominated the match completely.

In the first round Munar took the lead but did not achieve an advantage of more than three points. Azurmendi reacted to be ahead at the interval (11-9) and then went on a 5-0 run to open a gap on the scoreboard that allowed him to score the first game.

The second set began with another 4-0 run. A true declaration of intent that allowed the player from San Sebastián to arrive with a solid lead at half-time (11-4). Azurmendi would go on to sign two more 4-0 streaks that paved his way to the final victory.

Azurmendi’s semifinal match against Hoang will be played this Saturday at 10:00 a.m. (18:00 Spanish time) and you can follow live through the YouTube channel of the Mexican Badminton Federation.
