Shortly before his farewell game as coach of Liverpool FC, Jürgen Klopp once again addressed the fans with emotional words – and for the first time on social media on his own account.

“We are getting closer and closer to the end. We really met for the first time on October 8, 2015. I would call it a love affair. From day one it was an absolutely incredible time. I enjoyed it so much and I want to thank you so much for all the support and strength you have given us over the years,” Klopp said in a two-minute video on his new Instagram account called “Kloppo” – Jürgen Klopp, The Normal One.

Klopp recorded the video, which also shows the most emotional moments of his eight and a half years as football coach at the Reds, in his office – visibly moved. “I always wondered if it felt like we were writing a story together. And that’s how it feels today too. It’s a good book. And when we read it in the future, we will have a smile on our faces,” the former Mainz and Dortmund Bundesliga coach continued.

Leaving this “incredible place is difficult. “But I want to stay in touch with you. And even though I’m not a social media person, people have told me that social media helps with that. So, let’s go. See you,” Klopp said. After an hour, the video had almost 600,000 likes and more than 460,000 people had already followed Klopp’s account.

On the last matchday of the English Premier League, Liverpool will face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday (5 p.m. on Sky). Klopp led Liverpool to, among other things, the championship, winning the FA Cup and triumphing in the Champions League. In his farewell season he achieved his second success in the League Cup.
