That’s what lies ahead CAB Estepona Garden of the Costa del Sol by Francis Tomé to make history and sign promotion to the Endesa Women’s League, the highest category of Spanish women’s basketball. And the first triumphant step was taken this Saturday after beat Recoletas Zamora in a match that ended up being decided in the last seconds (50-53) in the first semifinal of the Final Four of Pineda.
CAB Estepona flew from the first second. The question is how not to do it with all the wind in their favor that they had thanks to their fans, but where they had to win was on the track and it was done. The Malaga team ‘simply’ played the basketball that brought them here: constant attack in the paint, iron defense and claw on the rebound. The Recoletas Zamora coach was forced to stop him with the 3-12but the Zamoranas managed to make up the score at the end of the first quarter: 7-12.

So much so that the tie came back on several occasions (26-26 y 28-28). However, the triple, who until now had turned his back on the Esteponas, went on to give him life with the 28-33. The Malaga team put an end to the rival awakening in one fell swoop. The Recoletas coach tried to stop him and succeeded. 35-36 at the end of the third quarter.
Now there were 10 minutes left in which what had been done before did not matter and Zamora took the opportunity to take the lead on the first play, which lasted practically a minute. CAB Estepona took a step forward with 38-43 and having the possibility of going to the free throw with each foul with 5:30 minutes remaining.
From there, the final and the classification for the big event (43-51) were going to be written. The people from Malaga already had it in hand. They earned it by defending and rebounding. Although we had to suffer a little more than expected, Recoletas was not going to sell it cheap and it was confirmed with the 50-52 with 40 seconds left. Brown captured a fundamental rebound, slowed the pace and a free throw from Raksanyi ended up sealing the final victory (50-53).
Hozono Global Jairis did it in Alcantarilla 2022, Celta Zorca Recalvi did it in Vigo 2023 and CAB Estepona is just 40 minutes away from repeating the host’s promotion. To meet his rival he will have to wait for the winner of Joventut – La Cordà de Paterna.
