Chilean Player Sammis Reyes Invited to NFL’s Minnesota Vikings Rookie Minicamp for 2024 Season

The Chilean Sammis Reyes was invited by the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings to the rookie minicamp heading to the 2024 season.

Last year Reyes, 28, announced his retirement from football after suffering a concussion in August for a blow he received in training with the Jacksonville Jaguars that left him without the possibility of fighting for a place in the 2023 campaign.

A decision that changed last January, after he found specialists to reduce the risk of concussions.

“I looked everywhere about how I could get back to playing and reduce the concussions a little bit. I contacted one of the top specialists and we made a training plan that had to do with improving neck strength and the ability to take hits without that the brain suffers that movement,” he said last January.

The one born in Talcahuano, the first Chilean to play in the NFL, He came to the league in 2021 as part of the International Player Pathway, an NFL program that seeks talents outside the United States and prepares them to seek a place in some of the 32 teams.

Reyes achieved it with Washington in the 2021 season, in which he played 11 games, but his growth was slowed before the 2022 campaign because he injured his hamstring; he was released by the team in August.

In October of that year he signed on to the Chicago Bears’ practice squad, but failed to make his way onto the 53-man roster.

In May 2023 he emigrated to Jacksonville to play with the Jaguars, a franchise with which he did not debut due to the concussion he suffered in preseason training.
