Roglic risks but wins the Dauphiné Tour – Cycling

Slovenian Primoz Roglic (Bora-Hansgrohe) won the Tour of Dauphiné for the second time in his career, a short stage race now in its 76th edition, a classic in the preparation for the Tour de France.

Roglic, however, risked losing the lead in the eighth and final stage, the 160 km Thones-Poateau des Gliers, which was won by the Spaniard Carlos Rodriguez (Ineos) ahead of the American Matteo Jorgenson, who finished second in the general classification just eight seconds behind him, making up almost all of the 62 he was behind.

Roglic reached the finish line sixth and managed, with a reaction on the final climb, to avoid being caught and overtaken in the standings by Jorgenson. Behind the American, third place went to Canadian Derek Gee and fourth to stage winner Rodriguez. Best of the Italians, Giulio Ciccone, seventh in the stage today and eighth in the final ranking.
