Cégep Beauce-Appalaches Condors Shine at 45th Beauceron Sports Merit Gala

Several members of the Cégep Beauce-Appalaches Condors have been nominated as part of the 45th Beauceron Sports Merit Gala which will be held this Saturday, May 11 from 7 p.m., at the Saint-Georges church square.

Cégep Beauce-Appalaches will be represented by seven nominations, both among student-athletes, as well as among the staff and the Condors organization.

« We are extremely proud of the successes of our athletes, as well as their nomination for the Beauceron Sports Merit Gala. Their remarkable performances and academic commitment are a source of inspiration. These nominations perfectly illustrate the positive impact of Condors programs on our student community», underlined Daniel Laflamme, assistant director of studies, programs and student life.

Baseball

Originally from Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce, Enrico Roy is nominated in the baseball category. He stood out for his versatility, excelling both as a pitcher and as a position player. His performances earned him to be drafted in the Quebec Major Baseball League last January, in the Thetford Mines team. A former Condors baseball player, he also takes on the role of assistant coach for the 2023-2024 season alongside his teammate Gabriel Boucher and coach David Métivier.

Weightlifting

At just 18 years old, Georgian Catherine Goupil won 2 bronze medals at the 2023 Canadian Senior Weightlifting Championship in the 76 kg category. She also won the gold medal at the Canadian Junior Championships. These performances allowed her to be nominated in this category while her best lifts are 88 kg in snatch and 105 kg in clean and jerk. The Human Sciences student, Psychosocial Perspective profile, also won the 2022 Quebec Student Sports Network (RSEQ) 7s Women’s Rugby League Championship as part of the Condors team, in addition to a gold medal at the Canadian Rugby Championship the following year with the Quebec team.

Volleyball

Nelyane Gilbert, human sciences student, Psychosocial Perspective profile, serves as co-captain of the Condors volleyball D2 team. Nominated in this same category, this excellent playmaker is recognized for demonstrating consistency and leadership. In 2023, she was elected female athlete of the year in the Condors organization and most valuable athlete of the volleyball team during the Cégep Beauce-Appalaches Sports Recognition Gala.

Andy Poulin, student in Specialized Education Techniques, returns to Saint-Georges for the 2024-2025 season. He will join the Condors after being recruited in D1 at Cégep de Sherbrooke. A versatile player on the court, he was a gold medalist in beach volleyball at the 2023 Quebec Games, after playing a tournament without losing a single set, which earned him a nomination in this category. Andy is also known in the region for having spent five years in sports studies with the Panthers at Veilleux high school.

Coach

From Notre-Dame-des-Pins, Maxime Lefebvre stands out as a coach, having led several teams to victory. In 2023, he led the Nomades de la Beauce to two titles: champions of the Arena Football Québec (AFQ) winter indoor football league and the championship of the Quebec 9-a-side Football League (LFQ9). The same year, Maxime also led the Benjamin Faucons of Saint-François Polyvalente to win the Beauce-Etchemin School Service Center (CSSBE) league and the Patriotes of Bélanger Polyvalente to be crowned RSEQ cadet D4 champions. In addition, he is a recruiting assistant for the Condors football, where he coordinates activities with Nez rouge allowing young athletes to get involved in the community.

Junior team

Originally from Saint-Georges, Specialized Education Techniques students Julien Bernard-Grenier and Andy Poulin are nominated for the Junior Team. They won the gold medal in beach volleyball at the 2023 Quebec Games without losing a single set during the tournament. Julien joined the D2 volleyball Condors this winter, while Andy will join his teammate this fall to proudly wear the yellow and green colors during the 2024-2025 season.

Senior Team

The Condors hockey team was named in the best Senior Team of the Year category. She entered the Quebec Junior AAA Hockey League (LHJAAAQ) in the fall of 2020, qualifying for the playoffs the last three years. In 2022 and 2023, she reached the final, showing her consistency and exceptional talent. Recently, she received the trophy for the team par excellence during the Sports Recognition Gala at Cégep Beauce-Appalaches, and in 2022, she won the Eastern Division Champions trophy at the LHJAAAQ Gala Méritas.
