The president of UEFA, Aleksander Ceferin, assured this Wednesday that he expects “an electric atmosphere” for the final of the Women’s Champions League when the footballers of FC Barcelona and Olympique Lyon “take the field” next Saturday (6:00 p.m. ) at the San Mamés Stadium, in Bilbao, in his opinion “one of the most unique cities in Europe” and which he has described as “an authentic cultural center marked by its iconic architecture.”
“It is a great pleasure to return to one of the most unique cities in Europe, a true cultural center marked by its iconic architecture. Football, as we know, plays a central role in Bilbao, so we expect an electric atmosphere when the finalists jump to the field. I want to thank the Royal Spanish Football Federation for their hospitality and the effort they have put into organizing such an event,” Ceferin said in an open letter.
Furthermore, the UEFA president has pointed out that the Women’s Champions League “has played a key role in this process, showing the ability of the best players, breaking extraordinary attendance records and inspiring several generations of girls and encouraging them to come closer to our dear sport”.
“However, we will not stop here. Starting in 2025 we will launch a new format in the Women’s Champions League, in addition to launching a second women’s club competition. This will generate even more enthusiasm and opportunities for players and clubs from across the continent to pursue European glory,” he recalled.
“But, returning to the present, today we have two exceptional teams destined to add a new page in the history of football by winning the long-awaited trophy. Let’s find out who emerges victorious,” Ceferin alluded to Barça and Olympique Lyon.
