Cairo Montenotte. On Sunday 19 May, the most classic of Ligurian baseball games took place on the Cairo Montenotte diamond, pitting the hosts from Val Bormio against Sanremo.
An appointment for which there is no need for introductions and which absolutely did not disappoint expectations! Game with a tight score that saw defenses and pitchers as undisputed protagonists.
The match immediately starts well for the Valborminese who, during the second inning, manage, thanks to the hits of Estrada and Bonifacino and the excellent contacts of Ferruccio and Marenco, to bring the result to the momentary 3 to 0.
The match proceeds until reaching the 4th inning in which, due to some errors and a valid extra base, Sanremo manages to close the gap, dangerously reaching 3 to 2.
From this point on the game changes and the defenses become the real protagonists. Excellent plays by Bloise, Ferruccio and Franchelli who resolved potentially dangerous situations together with the contribution of the entire pitching park with Castagneto author of a great game with 10 strikeouts then taken over by Buschiazzo, set-up, and by the closer Baisi who, despite the tight score, they managed the final part of the match perfectly. Match that ended with a 3-2 victory for Cairese.
A positive Sunday, which gives continuity to the work of the last few weeks; a response was expected from the people of Val Bormio and, with the results of these last weekends, the Cairese is demonstrating its true value.
Next Sunday will be rest for the Cairians, with the championship which will resume on June 2nd again in Cairo Montenotte, with the Turin Jacks as opponents.
The Under 15s also won the Savonese derby with a score of 12 to 6 with the Finale. Pascoli’s boys regain concentration starting from the mound, the starter Sechi did well, replaced by the equally good Flores, 9 eliminations at the plate for them. Overall the whole team worked well and, among all the plays, it is worth highlighting the nice assistance from Bertolini who with the elimination closes the first round thus stopping the Riviera comeback attempt; Palazzi’s fly out at the start of the second inning was equally beautiful. Finally even the bats started singing again, the extra base hits of Giusto and Flores were spectacular and the hits of Sechi and Malatesta were equally decisive.
A step forward underlined by the Cairese coach: “We were coming off two bad matches and it was necessary to change the inertia of the season. The absence of the injured Bogliolo and Gabbani certainly weighs on the general performance, but the boys responded positively and we are satisfied with this. Unfortunately this year’s formula doesn’t help us get into the rhythm, now we have three weeks of break also to make room for the Regions Tournament. The next match will be on June 12th in Genoa against the Rookies.”
