Bari: everything is ready for the third edition of WTA 125

Everything is ready at the Bari Tennis Club for the third edition of the “Wta 125” women’s tennis event, organized by the Ad Sport association and scheduled from 3 to 9 June on the red clay courts of the facility in via Martinez. The guest of the presentation held this morning was Tathiana Garbin, the captain of the Italian team in the Bilie Jean King Cup (the women’s Davis Cup), fresh from the “Golden Racket” award received last week in Rome.

“The international tournament in Bari is important because it is a springboard towards world tennis – says Garbin -. Our young girls have the opportunity to compete with the best in the world, while the most highly rated Italians can consolidate their ranking and play in front of their own audience. The competition period is particularly important for those who need to gain precious points to qualify for the Paris Olympics. Puglia has a huge tradition in women’s tennis and there is a promising player named Paganetti who will be able to carry this tradition forward with honor. She has a strong desire and determination which she combines with great technical qualities that will allow her to achieve good results.”

Doing the honors at this morning’s ceremony was the president of the Bari Tennis Club, Nicoletta Virgintino. “This year the change of date gives even more prestige to the tournament – says lei-lei. We are in the main clay season and we have an important entry list, waiting for the illustrious losers of the Roldand Garros, given that our Puglia Open coincides with the second week of the Parisian tournament. Our organizational machine is always ready, because we believe that this event is not only the flagship of the club but of the entire city of Bari and the region. We are waiting not only for our 300 members and fans of this sport, because after the sinner effect, we are sure we can also host curious people and people who are getting carried away by the enthusiasm of tennis”.

The collaboration with the Italian Tennis Federation has been renewed. “The change of date is an upgrade for Bari – specifies the national vice president of Fitp, Isidoro Alvisi -. Two years of testing were enough to certify the tournament as reliable on an international level. The participation of the protagonists therefore improves and we expect the Italian tennis players to triumph. For this reason it is also important to attest to the presence of Tathiana Garbin as captain of the blue team, which also testifies to the presence of the Federation, because from these tournaments there will be the future of women’s tennis”.

At the moment the entry list for the Bari tournament is very qualified, with 10 top 100 players and two Italians leading the list of participants: the Italians Lucia Bronzetti (number 48 in the world) and Elisabetta Cocciaretto (number 56). And then again the Argentine Nadia Podoroska (61), the Colombian Camila Osorio (64) up to the ever green Sara Errani, recent winner in the doubles with Paolini at the Internazionali in Rome. The large Bari public is waiting to celebrate the heir of the Slovenian Tamara Zidansek, who triumphed in the last edition. “The open is testimony to the ability of our territory to host sporting events of the highest international level – explains the director and organizer of the tournament, Enzo Ormas -. This year we will have many important players, given that the entry list is typical of a WTA250 tournament. We hope for more arrivals after Paris. The wild cards are still to be assigned, and we hope one will go to a tennis player of absolute prestige who is finding the right physical condition. We decide on the other wild cards with the Federation, to give space to young Italian women, following the project done with the men, in the hope of having the same success”.
