Baenense Sports Thrive with Epic Weekend Victories in Various Championships

Baenense sport has experienced a magnificent weekend with formidable individual and team successes, achieved throughout the Andalusian geography, with an extraordinary balance of 19 medals – five gold, two silver and twelve bronze – in championships. swimming, badminton, chess, off-road cycling and mountain running, in addition to the title of champions in group A of the 1st Division of the Petanque Club League.

Precisely, in this last sport modality, the two triplets of the Baenense Petanca Club, formed by the players: Natalio Torres, Junior Moral, Dan Ilie, Juan Carlos Pulido; Marcos Álvarez, José Moral, Manuel De las Morenas, David Gálvez; José Fajardo and Javier Gómez arrived as leaders of their group on the fourth and final day of the league that was played in La Guijarrosa, needing to add two wins in six games to be champions. Finally they achieved three wins and achieved the title and the objective of competing in the play off for promotion to the Andalusian League.

In the XXVIII Club Santo Reino Swimming Trophy, held in the pool of the ‘Las Fuentezuelas’ Sports Complex in Jaén, the Baena Swimming Club has won a total of ten medals, two gold, three silver and five bronze, which It has placed them in seventh place by team in the medal table and in eighth place overall by points with 333.

There have been four swimmers from Baen who have stood on the podium to win these ten medals. In the absolute women’s team, Alejandra Santano and Isabel Ortiz have won three medals each, gold, silver and bronze, respectively. For Alejandra it was gold in the 100 m. freestyle (1:00:51), silver in the 50 m. freestyle (28:32) and bronze in the 200 m. free (2:12:02); while Isabel Ortiz has won gold in the 100 m. butterfly (1:09:71), silver in the 50 m. butterfly (31:93) and bronze in the 50 m. back (34:45).

And in the children’s men’s category, Francisco Javier Santano, has won the silver medal in the 100 m. freestyle (59:51) and bronze in the 100 m. butterfly (1:06:72) and Álvaro Luque, in the absolute category, has achieved two bronzes in the 100 m. free (58:13) and 50 m. butterfly (27:53).

Likewise, on the 3rd day of the Provincial Badminton Circuit in sub-11 and sub-13 categories, held in Villanueva de Córdoba, the players of the Baena Badminton Club have won six medals. Three gold, for María Mérida, in singles under-11 and Juanjo Lastres, twice in singles and in men’s doubles under-13 with Mario Castillo. And the three bronze medals have gone to María Mérida and Pablo López in mixed doubles under-11, Pablo repeating in singles under-11 and Mario Castillo in singles under-13.

Furthermore, on this day several players made their debut in official competition, such as Jorge Mérida, Leo Rojano, Myroslava Rybachek, Mari Cruz Linares in sub-11 and Alex Lara in sub-13, overcoming the nerves of their debut with good marks.

Another outstanding medal, in this case bronze, went to the CD Media Legua mountain runner, María Triguero, in the very tough and prestigious Legion Race ‘101 kms de Ronda’, being fourth in the general classification and third in her category, with a time of 10 hours and 57 minutes.

In this new edition, number 24, more than 3,500 runners have competed between the walking and off-road bicycle tests, registering a wide participation of Baenense athletes in the different categories and all achieving the challenge of finishing the test.

For his part, in off-road cycling, Carlos Tienda from Baen has also won the bronze medal in the cadet category of the 2024 Andalusian BTT Half Marathon Championship, held in the ‘VI BTT Cumbres del Polje’ in the Granada town of Zafarraya .

On a demanding route of 47.62 km, the podium of the male cadet category was entirely from Cordoba, with Iker Pérez as champion with a time of 2 hours 20 minutes and 30 seconds, while the other two positions on the podium were decided in a tight sprint with only one second of difference between the second classified, the Pozo Albense Jesús Fernández, with a time of 2:21:47 and the Baenense Carlos Tienda with 2:21:48.

And in the Córdoba Active Chess Team Championship, held in Nueva Carteya, the chess players of the children’s team of the ‘Ruy López’ Chess Club of Baena, formed by Myroslava Rybachek, Cayetana Martínez, Iván Gámiz and David Gámiz, have achieved a magnificent bronze medal; while the first team of ‘Ruy López’ composed of Sebas Piernagorda, Giorgi Galych, Pablo Bazuelo and Lorenzo Ruiz have touched the podium in the absolute category, achieving a creditable fourth place and the veteran team, ‘Ruy López Iponuba’ formed by Agustín Flores, Jaime Castro, José Antonio Díaz, Juan Carlos Aguilar and David Gámiz were tenth.
