Andy Roddick reveals that he suffers from skin cancer

Former American tennis player Andy Roddick, winner of the 2023 US Open and who became number one in the world that same year, has announced that he suffers from skin cancer, a disease he has suffered since retiring from professional tennis in 2012.

“I’ve dealt with several types of skin cancer since I stopped playing. I had a squamous cell tumor removed from my lip five or six years ago. I’ve never talked about it. This morning we got into this facial laser thing. So, to stop “Those of you who watch me on YouTube, it seems like I got into the fight,” he noted on his podcast, ‘Served.’

The 41-year-old from Austin, who played his last professional match at the 2012 US Open, encouraged his followers to use sunscreen. “It sucks. I think I’m going to be some kind of axe the rest of my life. I’m not going to fall into the ‘oh, poor me’ thing because it’s okay, everything is fine, but wear sunscreen,” he urged.

“Put sunscreen on your children, especially if they are tennis players. The problem will not appear when the child is eight years old, but it could appear when the child is older and 38 years old,” he said.

Roddick has a ‘Grand Slam’ title under his belt, the 2003 US Open, where he was a finalist in 2006, and has reached the Wimbledon final three times (2004, 2005 and 2009). In addition, he has five ATP Masters 1,000 trophies, four ATP 500 and 22 ATP 250 trophies.
