11-year-old Alexander Coudyzer Wins Gold at Special Olympics Badminton

11-year-old Alexander Coudyzer from Oostrozebeke won gold on Saturday afternoon at the Special Olympics in badminton in the C class. There was also silver and bronze.

In La Louvière, Alexander Coudyser won the gold medal in the Special Olympics class C. Brecht Verleyen won bronze and Roger Vandevivere won silver. Yline Callens finished fourth in the A class. This makes Badminton Club Waregem’s first participation a great success. “We expected one or two medals,” beams trainer David D’Heygers. “After his Belgian title last week, Alexander Coudyzer now also won gold at the Special Olympics. He won all six of his matches. Alexander had almost become the favorite of his group. He’s having fun, that’s what counts. We now also saw what he has to offer against much better opponents. Alexander is also very motivated to improve. Waregem resident Roger Vandevivere immediately won silver in the B class in his first participation. Very handsome. Brecht Verleyen’s first participation also resulted in bronze in the A class.”

“We wanted to promote G-Sport with Badminton Club Waregem and we succeeded. We are very proud of it. As many as 3,400 athletes took part in these Special Olympics.”
