Marc-Andre ter Stegen Frustrated with Demotion to Number Two in DFB Team

Marc-Andre ter Stegen is deeply frustrated after being demoted to number two in the DFB team following the return of Manuel Neuer.

After a positive phase for the Barca keeper in which he was able to play as the first goalkeeper for a few times due to Neuer’s injury, the 32-year-old is now once again left with only the second jersey in Nagelsmann’s eleven.

Ter Stegen made it clear during a media round that the German is not at all happy with the decision: “It is not a pleasant situation. But the coach made the decision and I accept it, even if I do not agree with it.”

“This has nothing to do with Manu”

However, the 32-year-old is still not thinking about resigning from the DFB team: “I told the national coach that one is the sporting aspect, the other is the human aspect. I want everyone to be able to rely on me. At the end of the day, you have a responsibility to the group. I will help wherever I can.”

Moreover, his relationship with number one goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who is expected to go into the European Championship finals in his own country as number one, will not suffer as a result of the decision.

“It has nothing to do with Manu, we have the same position. But it has nothing to do with him on a personal level. I never wish anything to happen to him or for him to make a mistake. That’s not me,” he clarifies.
