Last weekend the 2nd matchday in the 1st Baseball Bundesliga took place. A total of ten games were on the schedule.

The game kicked off with the duel between the Stuttgart Reds and the Heidenheim Heideköpfen. Game 1 took place on Friday evening in the new Reds Stadium in Stuttgart, where the Heideköpfe scored nine runs in the last two innings after a 4-1 deficit and ultimately won 10-4. In the second game, which took place in Heidenheim, the Reds retained the upper hand and won 6-4 against the reigning German champions.

The Mainz Athletics got off to a perfect start to the season with two wins on matchday 1 against Haar. Accordingly motivated, the A’s traveled to Regensburg for a duel against the Legionnaires. The home team went hunting for points early on and impressed with a 12:4 final result in the first game. It became even clearer the following day. With 11:1 in favor of the Legionnaires, the game was ended early by the ten-run mercy rule.

In the third southern duel, Hünstetten STORM was a guest in the Bavarian capital. The Munich-Haar Disciples wanted to celebrate their first win of the season in front of their home crowd after two defeats from the previous week. And so, with the score at 1:1 from the 4th inning onwards, they took the upper hand and secured the 11:1 victory after just seven innings – thanks to the ten-run mercy rule. The second game also only lasted seven innings, with the Disciples chasing points from the start. The final score was 15-5 for Haar.

Since the Cologne Cardinals had no games on the opening weekend, they only started the new Bundesliga season on matchday 2. The Cards’ schedule included a doubleheader in Dohren against the Wild Farmers, who had previously suffered two significant defeats in the northern derby against the Stealers. A clear 7:1 victory for the Wild Farmers in the first game was followed by a match that was exciting right up to the last whistle. In this game too, the home team left the field with a 5:4 victory.

In the second North encounter, the two top clubs from last year’s regular season met. The Capitals from Bonn were guests in Hamburg at the Stealers. Both games were dominated by good pitching and strong defenses from both teams. With a narrow 2-1 win, the guests from Bonn were able to prevail in the first game. The second game ended 3-2 for the Stealers, to the delight of the home fans at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Next weekend the Reds will be guests in Regensburg (Friday, 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, 2:00 p.m.). The Disciples welcome the Heidenheim Heideköpfe (Saturday and Sunday, 1:00 p.m. each). Mainz Athletics will also meet Hünstetten STORM (Friday, 7:00 p.m. in Mainz and Saturday, 1:00 p.m. in Hünstetten).

In the north, the Untouchables play at the Cologne Cardinals (Sat. and Sun., 1:00 p.m.) and the Wild Farmers play at the Bonn Capitals (Sat., 5:00 p.m. and Sun., 12:00 p.m.). The Hamburg Stealers have no game.
