Virtus Bologna seeks redemption with win over Cremona at Segafredo Arena

The Bianconeri return to the Segafredo Arena less than 48 hours after the disappointment with Baskonia and are also looking for redemption for the defeat in the first leg in Cremona. Banchi leaves Dobric and Mickey to rest and the start is not the best. Vanoli takes the lead by 8 points, then the hosts react and get back to 20-23 at the first break after a two-handed dunk by Abass and a basket by Lundberg at the siren. The perfect balance is re-established at 26 points with a triple from Hackett, but the Lombards immediately come back on top and extend the maximum lead to 9 points. The counter-reaction led by Lundberg is worth 41 all and, from moment to moment, at the halfway mark the result is very high, 49-53. After Cordinier’s 62-all dunk, the Black Vu put their noses forward again just before the 73-69 of the last break and never looked back. In the final 93-85, Belinelli’s 21 points with 5/6 3-pointers and Lundberg’s 15 stand out. Zizic also scored in double figures with 11 points and Polonara with 10. Eboua scored 17 for Cremona and 15 each for Davis and Golden.
Virtus is still second in the standings together with Milan -2 behind Brescia and +4 over Venice, while Reggio Emilia is again fifth alone after the 74-66 at home against Brindisi. Having conceded the first basket of the match to the Apulians coached by the former player Dragan Sakota, the red and whites of coach Priftis placed a 14-1 run which seemed to direct the match. But the guests improve their percentages and go back to -5 at the first siren (21-16) and then impact on 24 all. At this point Reggiana produces a new 11-0 break led by Jamar Smith, who with 17 and 7/8 points from the field brings his score up to +16 at 44-28 at the break. When the game restarted, Smith again and a dunk from Faye widened the gap to 20 points, but Brindisi didn’t want to go back to -8 with 10 minutes to play. In the fourth period the gap drops to 4 points several times, but Happy Casa pays for the effort and is unable to complete the comeback. At PalaBigi it ends 74-66 with 23 points from Jamar Smith on 9/11 shooting and 5/7 from 3. Tariq Black scores 13 points with 4/4 from two, 11 points from Galloway, awarded best player before the game of the championship in March. On the other side 12 each for Bartley and Sneed, well contained by the Reggio defense
