The members of the Ueckermünder Judo Club are keeping their fingers crossed not only for the two defending champions, Lothar “Stachi” Sterlinski and Olga Fedorchenko, for the German Championships for the over-30 judoka in the Ring Arena at the Nürburgring. Debutants Christin Zieger, Erik Thurow and Martin Staeger will also be competing for the Haff club on Saturday and Sunday in the Eifel.
They are flanked by the already experienced athletes Paul Pust and Ariane Wittenberg. The Ueckermünder judo club, led by coach Henry Menge, has seven of 23 starters from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania at the national event for veterans. Martin Thierfelder from Asia Neubrandenburg is also joining us, another former fighter from Ueckermünde. Almost 450 judoka from all over Germany are taking part in the German over-30 individual championships for men and women.
