Defeated against IK Sävehof: European League: Flensburg moves into the Final Four

Handball Bundesliga team SG Flensburg-Handewitt has qualified for the Final Four of the European League in Hamburg. After the 41:30 victory in the quarter-final first leg at IK Sävehof, the North Germans lost 28:29 (11:15) at home in the second leg on Tuesday evening.

The final round will be played in Hamburg on May 25th and 26th. In addition to the SG, two other Bundesliga clubs are represented there: Rhein-Neckar Löwen and Füchse Berlin. The field of participants is completed by the Romanian champions Dinamo Bucharest. The semi-final matches will be drawn on Friday in Hamburg.

Johannes Golla, Simon Pytlick and Johan Hansen scored the most goals for the SG with five goals each in front of 4,825 spectators in the campus hall on Tuesday evening. Alexander Westby was also successful five times for the Swedes.

The Swedes, who had knocked TSV Hannover-Burgdorf out of the competition in the play-offs, started well and led 4-1 in the seventh minute. After the guests scored 7:3 in the 10th minute, SG coach Nicolej Krickau took a time out and spoke loudly to his players. Right winger Hansen equalized to 9:9 (22nd), but by the Hungarian referee’s half-time whistle the deficit had grown again to four goals.

After the break, the Swedes extended their lead to five goals (17:12/33.). However, as the game went on, the guests’ strength dwindled. At the SG, circle player Golla and backcourt player Pytlick now took command. The Dane Pytlick took the North Germans’ first lead with 22:21 (49th). But it wasn’t enough to win against the self-sacrificing Swedes. The draw for the semi-finals will take place on Friday in Hamburg.
