LOS ANGELES (AP) — Naz Reid scored six 3-pointers to finish the night with 31 points and the Minnesota Timberwolves took advantage of the absence of LeBron James and the departure of Anthony Davis early in the game due to an eye injury, and won 127 -117 to the Lakers on Sunday.
Anthony Edwards added 26 points for the Timberwolves, who moved into a tie with Denver atop the Western Conference at 54-24 with their seventh win in nine games. Minnesota did not waste its opportunity to defeat the surging Lakers, who played almost the entire night without their two stars.
James stayed home with flu-like symptoms, the 11th game he had missed in his 21st NBA season. Davis then had to return to the locker room after taking a hit in the face from Kyle Anderson while he was making a basket late in the fourth quarter.
Davis did not return to the court, and Lakers coach Darvin Ham had no information on his status after the game. Davis suffered another blow to his left eye, which had already suffered an impact last month in a duel against Golden State.
Rui Hachimura scored 30 points for the Lakers, who saw their four-win streak end with just their second loss in 11 games. Los Angeles also finished ninth again in the western competition.
