The Sports Disciplinary Committee has decreed the partial closure of the Metropolitano as a sanction for the racist shouts that were uttered from the south end of the stadium towards Nico Williams, an Athletic player. This is the area of ​​the stadium that will be closed, as reflected in the resolution, which takes into account what was reflected in Martínez Munuera’s arbitration report.

The Alicante referee recorded in the minutes that there had been “a sound imitating a monkey ‘uh, uh’, coming from the southern depths” of the Metropolitano, where the radical followers of the Atlético de Madrid. The situation occurred when Nico Williams was preparing to take a corner kick in the first half.

In light of this, “and in view of section 4 of the arbitration report of the aforementioned match, regarding which the club has not made allegations, this Disciplinary Committee resolves impose a sanction of 20,000 euros on Atlético and a partial closure of the sports venue for a period of two matches“, as resolved by the Disciplinary Committee.

The organ now asks Atlético to identify the structure of the stands at the sports venue “in order to determine the area of ​​the stadium subject to closure that, according to the minutes, would affect the sector located in the southern end of the field.”

To this end, in the next two matches to be played by Atlético at home (matches against Celta and Osasuna), “access to the public in said area must be closed, which will be duly delimited, not being able to relocate the spectators who, in where appropriate, they could be occupying them on a regular basis”.

Furthermore, during the celebration of these two duels, the ones that Atlético has left at home, Atlético must show a visible message condemning violent, racist, xenophobic and intolerant acts and behavior in football and support for fair play.
