On Monday evening he attended the game between Servette and the Young Boys.
It wasn’t Djokovic’s first visit to the Stade de Genève.
After the game, Cedric Itten spoke about the visit.
YB became Swiss champions for the 17th time on Whit Monday. After a 1-0 win over Servette, the joy was huge. The newly crowned champion heroes promised a wild and, above all, long night of partying.
There was plenty of beer, champagne and schnitzel bread in the cabin. However, von Ballmoos missed one thing: “Where are the masters’ stumps?” he asked the group and laughed. The YB heroes sang and danced with the traveling supporters at the Stade de Genève.
Cedric Itten is happy to have visitors
Whoever was in the arena: Novak Djokovic. The Geneva Open is currently underway in Geneva. Whoever serves there is a tennis superstar. He took his visit to Switzerland as an opportunity to watch the game between Servette and YB. The Serb was in the VIP area of the Servette Stadium and saw the Young Boys celebrate their 17th league title away from home thanks to a 1-0 win.
Cedric Itten spoke about the Serbs for 20 minutes. The striker didn’t know that Djokovic was in the stadium. “I knew that he was also in the stadium in the Champions League game against Red Star,” Itten then said. And further: “It’s nice that we have such prominent spectators.”
Djokovic is in crisis
Will the Young Boys’ championship title give the tennis superstar strength? You will see that. The fact is: Djokovic has not won a tournament since November and has not yet reached a final.
Most recently he hit the headlines because he collapsed after being hit by a bottle in Rome. He then came to training wearing a bicycle helmet and amused his fans. In the subsequent defeat, he cited the health consequences of bottle gate as one of the reasons for this.
Not his first visit
It was not the first time that Djokovic came to the Stade de Genève. On February 17, 2014, he took part in a Servette-Vaduz game in the Challenge League. At the time, one of his close friends, left-back Neven Markovic, was playing in the Servette colors.
The fans were enthusiastic about Djokovic’s visit to the Servette Stadium on Whit Monday. On X there were quickly numerous photos of the superstar and short video sequences. Speaking of which: Kevin Mbabu sat one row behind Djokovic.
Servette was also happy about Djokovic’s visit. The Super League club posted a picture of the superstar on social media and wrote: “Thank you for coming.”
