The yellow-blue coach: “The most difficult moment is coming, the team is there, we can’t lose our identity”
Marco Baroni commented on Sky’s microphones about Verona’s defeat in the match against Lazio at the Olimpico.
“We made some individual errors, even in the scoring action. Their most important opportunities came from some carelessness that you can’t give to a Lazio team like this, which has quality, passing ability and cleanliness.
When you lose these balls in the middle of the field on a transition it is difficult to recover them. It’s a shame because the team played a good match. We were very aggressive, we always brought pressure on the ball and took away a lot of initiative from them. Offensively we had some opportunities and we could have been more lucid but the team is there, it is alive, we are certainly sorry because with a little more attention in my opinion the result was within reach.
Now comes the most difficult moment, we have to play matches where both individual and team performance are centered, eliminating some errors that we cannot afford.
Lazio clearly have a midfield with a lot of mobility and quality, managing their midfielders was not easy. I thought about putting Folorunsho next to Serdar because they are the ones who have the most running and there was running duels to do, in my opinion they did very well. Lazio is a team that you can’t let go of the dribble, we tried to take it away, then it’s a shame because if we look at the second half chances they arise more from our own lost balls, which we can’t lose.
As I always say, just the first 11 are not enough, the changes are fundamental. I know that sometimes these are defeats that hurt, we have to play our football, we can’t lose our identity or be afraid. In this field we can score goals, but you must not make mistakes. In these matches we need a lot of compactness, a team that sacrifices itself.
It’s a shame, but the team is certainly there and now we have to think about work and preparing for the next races.”
