INTERVIEW – Former OM glory who experienced the “hand of Vata” in 1990, Éric Di Meco is pessimistic before the Europa League quarter-final against Benfica on Thursday.
He was in the front row. Éric Di Meco, legend of Olympique de Marseille (277 matches), was marking Vata when, on April 18, 1990, the Benfica player scored a controversial and decisive goal in the semi-final second leg of the Champions League. It became “the hand of the devil”, a trauma which is no longer one for Di Meco, 60 years old today, and who saw the Angolan again thirty-four years later in the show “Rothen s’ignle” broadcast Monday on RMC. OM, 8th in Ligue 1, returns to Lisbon this Thursday (9 p.m.) in the quarter-final first leg of the Europa League, in the hope of saving a gloomy season.
LE FIGARO. – You spoke with Vata for the first time since 1990. How did it happen ?
