There are only days left until, for the first time in history, Tucumán will host a Challenger tournament, belonging to the ATP circuit (Association of Professional Tennis Players). Starting Sunday, Lawn Tennis will host the contest, which already has invitations confirmed, with the presence of two people from Tucumán: Maximum y Gonzalo Zeitune.
“Machi”, the youngest of the cousins (he turned 18 this year), will play in the main draw of the competition. 34th in the junior world ranking, he will play the main stage of a Challenger for the first time. In recent weeks, he made his debut in ITF tournaments, falling in the first round in two M15s that were held in Bragado.
In addition to Máximo, two young Argentine tennis players with great presence received wild cards for the main draw: Lautaro Midón y Juan Manuel La Serna. Midón, a 20-year-old from Corrientes, is 462nd in the ATP ranking, and at the end of March he won the M15 in Bragado, his second title as a professional. “Manu”, from Catamarca, and also 20 years old, won the M15 in Punta del Este in March, his first title as a professional, and is ranked 727th on the international list.
Gonzalo Zeitune will be in the qualy, that is, the previous stage of the tournament, which consists of two rounds. Also 18 years old (he will turn 19 this year), Gonzalo achieved his first point in the professional circuit this year, which allowed him to appear in the ranking (he is located 1936th). This will be his second experience in a Challenger tournament: he played the qualifier in Santa Fe last year, falling in the first round.
In addition, there will be three other guests for that instance: Mateo Del Pino (20 years old, 1108th ATP), Nikos Lehmann (18 years, 1073°) and Romeo Arcuschín (16 years old, without professional ranking, 110th in the junior world).
On the other hand, it was confirmed that the Zeitune will also play, together, the doubles draw. A few weeks ago, in one of the M15 in Bragado, in what was their first professional tournament together, they reached the semifinals.
