The mayor of Baena, María Jesús Serrano, has announced that the City Council has started a project to draft a Housing and Land Plan that will affect “in a transversal way the entire municipality but fundamentally the entire historic center.”
Serrano has detailed that it is “a very important plan that will arise from a diagnosis of what is happening in Baena with housing and in order to be able to treat this problem” and has explained that this project “will be in line with the European Urban Agenda”.
The Baenense councilor has insisted that the purpose of this plan is to “resolve the current situation of the historic center, as well as determine the reality of the housing in the expansion.” In the old town, they will focus mainly on the Almedina area, on Amador de los Ríos street and on the edges of the city.
Likewise, Serrano has advanced that “this plan is going to be made through a dialogue with Baenense society to address both the problems of housing rehabilitation and those of substandard housing and social housing” and has pointed out that in the expansion they will focus in “homes with accessibility and energy efficiency problems and in Haza del Reloj to eliminate asbestos from roofs.”
On the other hand, the architect and person in charge of drafting the project, Mariela Fernández, has detailed that she has “the challenge of expressing the housing problem in Baena in an objective document” and has specified that they are going to work from a of complete analysis that includes a data analysis, an analytical and strategic part and a programmatic part.
Fernández has encouraged Baena society to participate to “see the real situation of the homes in Baena and to be able to put on the table what to do together” and has announced that “they have already started the data analysis although the “The rest of the issues in which society will participate will be done in a month with in-person surveys, meetings with municipal interest groups and online surveys.”
