The progressive majority finally gets the signing of David Broncano to do ‘La resistencia’ in La1

BarcelonaIn the fourth is the vanquished. The hiring of David Broncano has been a series with more script twists than a tabletop series, but this Wednesday it was able to move forward. Along the way, the board of directors of RTVE has jumped into the air: the interim president Elena Sánchez and the head of content, José Pablo López, were dismissed. The quality vote of the new president was decisive when it came to signing the presenter, who will adapt the program The resistancecurrently on Movistar+, to fit it into the band of theaccess prime timewith the aim of competing with Pablo Motos.

In an extraordinary meeting of the council, the blocks that led the affair to a deadlock situation remained. Four of the five necessary councilors were still in favor of incorporating Broncano: the two members proposed by the PSOE, Concepción Cascajosa – new interim president – and Ramon Colom, to whom is added the other councilor promoted by the PNB, Juan José Baños, and a of the two that Podemos has placed in this decision-making body, Roberto Lakidain. Against it were the three councilors of the PP (Jenaro Castro, Carmen Sastre and Consuelo Aparicio), while the other councilor appointed by the purple formation, José Manuel Martín Medem, had abstained last week. Former president Sánchez was absent again, without delegating the vote to anyone, so the situation was similar to that of a few days ago. But, in this case, a legal report endorsed that it was considered a four-way tie even if the entire council was not present and, therefore, the quality vote served to break the tie. The other position invokes the Statute of RTVE to argue that an absolute majority of five votes is required.

Thus, Broncano will land on Spanish public television to make a minimum of two seasons of his comedy show, at a rate of more than 13 million per course or, what is the same, more than 85,000 euros per episode, of one hour duration approx. The initial intention of the team was to tie up for three years, but throughout the negotiations this commitment has been reduced to two seasons. In addition, there are some forecasts that would allow, if a minimum audience of 7.5% is not reached for four consecutive months, to terminate the contract at the end of the first year. Other provisions include moving the show to the morning, in case it works better as a late night. Then the screen share requirement level would be 8%. 1 got one share average of 9.7% throughout 2023.

One of the first reactions was that of the deposed López, one of the promoters of the project who ended up paying for his defense with the position. In a message to X, he did not comment on the matter, but he did post a GIF of Broncano blowing a kiss, which could be interpreted as a tongue-lashing at the councilors who made him go astray.

This political division over the signing of Broncano has to do with the fact that Pedro Sánchez’s communications advisors see with good eyes that there is a counterweight to the now undisputed leadership of Pablo Motos in the night slot. The anthillin recent times, has shifted editorially to the right, and includes recurrent criticism of the Spanish president and his policies.

The fact that the decision was made on the basis of a legal report suggests that the battle does not end here. The newspaper El Mundo notes that a group of workers has also ordered a legal report to find out if signing a contract they consider “draconian” can constitute a crime of disloyal administration. The report, whose authorship or the identity of those who commissioned it, explains that “criminal-type elements could be being fulfilled”.
