The Hyland Show: Clippers’ Second Unit Holds Up Against Suns Before Breaking Down

NBA – For three quarters, the usual “second unit” of the Clippers held up against the Suns. Before breaking down (124-108).

Surprise in between: no Clippers star is present on the floor. Compared to the day before (already against the Suns), only Terance Mann is still in Tyronn Lue’s starting five. At his side, we find Bones Hyland and Jamal Murray’s former understudy has ants in his legs.

From the outset, Bones Hyland (37 points at 15/29 shooting) will take things in hand for the Los Angeles team. With a penetration with the foul, then with a basket from far away, he will allow the Clippers to lead 10-2.

Devin Booker will, however, lead his team’s comeback with two 3-pointers, one in the corner and another facing the circle. It even allows the Suns to take an 18-15 advantage. To end the quarter, Devin Booker (37 points) finds Bradley Beal (26 points) for a long distance basket. : 28-27 in favor of the Suns.

With an 11-2 to start the second quarter, we think the Suns will bury the game quickly. On a lay-up, Bradley Beal even found a way to give the Suns a 15-point lead. It’s time for Tyronn Lue to bring Bones Hyland back to the floor. And he’s still just as aggressive. The Clippers leader attacks the circle and also distributes for his teammates. It allows the Suns to get back to a point one minute from the end of the half. Then with a wide shot, he completed a 20-4 for the Clippers. Los Angeles is back in front.

Le Hyland Show

In the third quarter, the Clippers were still not satisfied and did not give up. Bones Hyland is still on cloud nine. He quickly reached 30 points in the match with a flawless 3-pointer. He is well supported by PJ Tucker and Brandon Boston Jr. (23 points) who also provide behind the arc. The two teams go blow for blow. Amir Coffey manages to maintain the Clippers’ lead with work with his back to the basket against Eric Gordon. Both teams scored 37 points in this third quarter. The Clippers still lead, 93-92.

To everyone’s surprise, the Clippers are still alive in the last quarter. And Bones Hyland will even give them 4 points in advance on an interception and going to the basket under the eyes of Bradley Beal. But the Hyland show lasted long enough for teammates Kevin Durant.

The Suns accelerate, block access to the circle and even take two shots on Bones Hyland. From a 3-pointer at 45°, Grayson Allen in turn gives his team a 4-point lead. Brandon Boston Jr. misses three shots in a row and the Clippers won’t come back. Booker will score another long shot off the dribble to take a 12-point advantage two minutes from the end of the match. It’s over for the usual Clippers bench. 124-108.

WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER

– Bones Hyland in a state of grace. This is quite simply a career best for Bones Hyland. He had only scored 7 points in 17 minutes the day before. Tonight, he will have put in 30 more. The former Nuggets will have carried his team against the Suns who were not always focused before entering the last period of the match. But the final quarter was much more complicated once the Suns targeted him.

– The absent stars. The Clippers had announced that they did not want to give up anything to validate the home advantage as quickly as possible. That obviously didn’t count the second game of this back-to-back against the Suns. James Harden and Kawhi Leonard were already absent for the first game against the Suns. But in tonight’s rematch, Paul George (left knee), Russell Westbrook (left hand) were also missing. Norman Powell and Ivica Zubac were on the scoresheet, but did not come into play. The pivot notably had inflammation in his left ankle.

– The Suns don’t let the Pelicans slip away. If the Clippers do not immediately validate the home advantage, the Suns do not let the Pelicans slip away. With this victory, Frank Vogel’s men remain in ambush in the event of a misstep by the Pels. They remain 7th in the West, forcing them, for the moment, to go through the “play-in”.
