The Comeback King: Tom Brady Contemplates Return to NFL After Retirement

A true legend of American football, Tom Brady has decided to call it quits at the end of the season. At 46, the quarterback, who finished his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is now retired. But is the former Patriots really done with the NFL? Brady said he was ready to come out of retirement and he could imitate other athletes just as legendary as him.

Seven-time winner of the Super Bowl with the Patriots and the Buccanneers, Tom Brady will leave its mark for a long time NFL. The history of American football has been marked by the quarterback, now 46 years old. If he has long put off the moment to say stop, Brady announced that he would retire at the end of last season. But now he could well reverse his decision. Indeed, on the occasion of the Deep Cut podcast, Tom Brady opened the door to a return to NFL if a franchise were to call him: “I am not opposed to it”.

This is not the first time that this has happened for Tom Brady. Indeed, in 2022, a few weeks after announcing that he was retiring, he finally decided to continue in NFL, explaining then: “These last two months, I realized that my place is always on the field and not in the stands. That time will come. But it’s not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible. I will return for my 23rd season in Tampa. An unfinished business.”

Zidane returns to the French team

Avant Tom Brady, other legendary athletes have also decided to return to competition after having decided to stop. In football, this was particularly the case of Zinedine Zidane, who said stop‘French team in 2004 after the Euro. An international retirement which then only lasted a little over a year since in the summer of 2005, Zizou had made known his choice to return to the Blues in particular to compete in the 2006 World Cup.

Michael Jordan’s repeated retirements

A true legend of basketball and the NBA, Michael Jordan had also decided to stop his career and then resume a few months later. In 1993, the idol of Bulls no longer had the motivation and decided to quit to take on a new challenge: baseball. But this did not last very long since in 1995, MJ made his comeback under the tunic of Chicago in NBA. In 1999, Jordan announced his retirement from sports a second time, but again, history repeated itself and it was in 2001 that he returned to the NBA courts, this time as a player of the Wizards de Washington. And the list is still long of these sportsmen and women who have come out of retirement to resume competition. Tom Brady is not the first and should not be the last…
