The Battle for the Title: Tamponnaises vs. Saint-Pauloises in Women’s Basketball Final

Tied one round everywhere, the Tamponnaises and the Saint-Pauloises are competing for the title of champions of Reunion this evening at 7 p.m. at the Espace Basket in Tampon.

BASKET-BALL – It is the law of away victories which governs the women’s final for the moment. 60-67 on the way to Saint-Paul for the Tamponnaises, 58-63 on the return for Guillaume Dhaussy’s daughters at the Espace Basket in Le Tampon, while almost everyone saw the Tamponnaises heading towards a thirteenth consecutive title.

The Tamponnaises retain the advantage of playing at home. Already titled in the twelve previous seasons, they were surprised by the freshness and resistance of Saint-Paul, and they have so far missed out on this final. “We were especially very clumsy, regrets coach Yannick Doro. We wanted to play stopped and it’s not our game, then it’s no longer the same behind to take the shots. The defense wasn’t aggressive enough, but you shouldn’t question everything either.”

At the final whistle, the Tamponnaises isolated themselves in their locker room, they knew that they had missed out on their match. “I didn’t need to speak, continues Doro. They know things, about the lack of investment too.” The Tamponnaises showed themselves below their level, they have the chance to recover. “We trained well, explains the coach, and everyone is very motivated to get this thirteenth title.”

Leading the score for a large part of the match, the Tamponnaises cracked in the last three minutes last Saturday. “But we know our level and we must not lose confidence, concludes Buffon coach Yannick Doro. The finals belong to the players, in the big matches the big teams and the big players, it’s up to them. Either tomorrow everything is over for us this season, or we continue, it only depends on us.”

A thirteenth title at Le Tampon, or the first in Saint-Paul

The girls of Doro know that if they are a little below, the Saint-Pauloises will seize the slightest opportunity to make them doubt. Because if they have achieved the feat of winning at Le Tampon, everything remains to be done to reach the first title. “After a victory like that, it was a great week, says Saint-Paul coach Guillaume Dhaussy, but we had to go back down quickly and above all not believe that we had done the hardest part. “A feat is a big word, it was a great performance.” To be champions, they must reissue it this evening.

The return match brought the Saint-Pauloises some ingredients of the recipe, and above all they now know that it is possible. “They have lost one match at home in ten years, s’amuse Guillaume Dhaussy. We have to beat them twice in two weeks. This defeat at home, we have a little to do with it. There was a bit of euphoria, that’s normal. But now, we’re starting from scratch and the motto doesn’t change, we give our best, we have to die on the pitch so as not to regret anything. We will only remember the winner.”

Victorious last Saturday, the Saint-Pauloises do not forget that they lost six times against the Tamponnaises this season. “We have no choice but to be intense, otherwise they are stronger than us. The whole group responds, rejoices Dhaussy, major players like those on the bench. Everyone is trying to be at their best.”.

Edelweiss Rumjaun had a week to heal her injured finger, and will be there as leader. “We must let go of the horses, conclut Guillaume Dhaussy. It will come down to details and everything can quickly change, in one direction or the other. We play basketball to play this kind of match.” In Saint-Paul, women’s basketball is under construction, the team has only existed for five years, this is Guillaume Dhaussy’s third season at its head, and already a first title seems to be approaching.
