buying a ticket directly from bus drivers will cost 5 euros in Paris – Libération

The ticket price on the bus will double during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, RATP and Ile-de-France Mobilités indicated on May 9. The ticket purchased at the counter or online will cost 4 euros, as announced in November.

For users who board a Parisian bus without a ticket, they will have to pay 5 euros to the driver this summer. Or double the usual rate, RATP and Ile-de-France Mobilités announced this Thursday, May 9. This increased rate will be in effect from July 20 to September 8, during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. On the other hand, the SMS ticket, which allows you to receive a ticket directly on the phone by sending a message, will be at the same price of 5 euros.

This additional ticket, called a “repair” ticket, is sold to any passenger who has not previously purchased their ticket. It currently represents only 2% of sales, underlines the RATP and the transport organizing authority Ile-de-France Mobilités. The ticket will cost less if purchased at the counter or online, but you will still have to pay 4 euros.

Two tickets to compost

Another clarification from Ile-de-France Mobilités: travelers who purchase this €5 emergency ticket will not receive one but two tickets, the unit value of which corresponds to 2.50 euros. Easier than printing special tickets for just two months. Users will then have to validate these two tickets. “There will indeed be a double validation,” confirmed the authority responsible for Ile-de-France transport at Franceinfo.

This price increase is part of the general increase in Parisian transport tickets this summer, announced in November. “It is a temporary increase with the sole objective: not to leave any Olympic debt to Ile-de-France residents,” then underlined the president of the Ile-de-France region, Valérie Pécresse. In particular, the additional sums collected will be used to “finance the reinforcement of +15% of the transport offer during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which represent an additional cost of 250 million euros”. This would also involve avoiding queues at ticket counters during the Games, and making visitors pay in part for the additional transport offered.

So, as for the bus, the single ticket for metros and trams will cost 4 euros. The train or RER ticket outside Paris will increase to 6 euros, while bus tickets to Roissy or Orly will increase to 16 euros. Navigo day and week packages will not be sold during this period. A “Paris 2024” pass is already on sale: 16 euros per day for unlimited journeys.

The transport organizing company insists: the objective would not be to penalize Ile-de-France residents. It therefore encourages regular users to load tickets at the normal rate (2.15 euros each, 17.35 euros for a book of 10) before July 20 on the Navigo Easy pass or on their phone (up to 30 tickets ). Liberté + pass holders (with journeys billed at the end of the month) will also continue to pay 1.73 euros for their individual tickets during the Olympics.

The price of the packages remains unchanged for holders of an annual Navigo, monthly, Imagine R, Amethyst pass, as well as beneficiaries of social rates. Which represents 5 million users.
