“Thank you for being there for me”: Tolu Arokodare turns to sporting colleague Brandon Mechele after frightening moment

Genk striker Tolu Arokodare experienced a scary moment on Sunday afternoon in the top match against Club Brugge. The 23-year-old Nigerian collided with Club keeper Nordin Jackers and became unwell a few minutes later. Fortunately, Club defender Brandon Mechele was nearby to keep his opponent straight. The reason was a serious collision between Tolu and Club keeper Nordin Jackers a few minutes earlier. The Limburg striker headed straight into the head of the Bruges goalkeeper at high speed.

“It was really strange, but I am especially happy that everything is going well with him,” the Bruges defender looked back on the special phase of the match. “I thought he wanted to grab me and try to push me away so they could take that free kick quickly but he just kept hanging on to me. That’s why I held him and then he started to fall, so I tried to put him down gently. Fortunately, he is okay now, but it still bothered me for a while. I was also out of it for a while and didn’t really know what to do. It was still scary.”
