BUSINESS. Steeve Tanguay is a sportsman at heart. Fastball, hockey, golf… He eats sports! Eager to make a living from his passion, after about 3 years of efforts, the entrepreneur opened the business of his dreams on January 12: Tanguay Virtuo Sports.
Briefly, the business has two golf simulators (with 150 courses downloaded from around the world!), two batting cages and a sports bar. The whole thing represents an investment of $270,000. Located at 102, rue du Parc-Industriel in Saint-Elzéar, the location also benefits from a 22-foot-high ceiling, as well as 3,640 ft² of surface area.
“I always wanted to work in sport. I like simulators, but there weren’t any in the area and I was tired of going up to Lévis or Quebec. […] There aren’t really any bars anymore either. I’m glad I had the idea,” he said.
Not easy
For the businessman from Saint-Bernard, the first challenge was certainly finding the right premises. The challenge was significant, because many owners did not believe in his project.
Then, it was through permit requests and administrative formalities that his dream was tarnished. Mr. Tanguay wanted to thank the Municipality of Saint-Elzéar as well as the Member of Parliament for Beauce-Nord Luc Provençal, who worked hard to help him realize his ambitions.
Boom!
However, once the paperwork was behind him, success was not long in coming.
“I wasn’t even open yet that I was turning people away!” “, he says.
So much so that, although barely three months have passed since opening, last minute reservations are already a bad idea…
“There are more and more gangs coming. People love the atmosphere. They have happy hours, holiday parties, tournaments… Weekday evenings are very busy and weekends, it doesn’t stop! “, he commented, estimating the number of people who pass through its doors each week at 500.
Let us mention in passing that Steeve Tanguay had initially launched his business alone, but his brothers Dany and Dominic agreed to dive into the adventure as soon as they saw the enthusiasm of the population.
Steeve Tanguay is now considering the possibility of expanding his business within two years. The addition of simulators, and perhaps also lounges, would allow it to welcome even more enthusiasts within its walls.
“I expect to have a lot of requests. Baseball and golf are on the rise in Beauce. We may just be surprised for the better! », he is confident.
