The main draw of the prestigious two-week clay court tournament begins on Tuesday 7 in Rome. All top 10 players in the world will compete in the WTA 1000 Masters. Last year’s defending champion is Elena Rybakina. Rybakina last reached the final in Miami, where she lost to Danielle Collins. Iga Swiatek won the title in 2021 and 2022 and will try to win it back.

Almost all of the top players are represented at the tournament. But only almost. There are only two players who are high enough for direct participation but are not on the starting list: Karolina Muchova, ranked twelfth in the world rankings, had to cancel her participation in the tournament due to a wrist injury. And Petra Kvitova, who is pregnant and on maternity leave. Eight players are on the entry list for the main draw via a special ranking, including two new mothers who were both multiple Grand Slam winners and at the top of the world rankings: Naomi Osaka and Angelique Kerber.
