Stan Van Gundy, long-time NBA coach currently in the role of commentator for TNT, recently had important words for Luka Doncic, star and leader of the Dallas Mavericks.
“The best offensive player I’ve ever seen is Luka Doncic…I don’t think there’s anything he can’t do in the offensive half of the field. First of all he is huge, over 2 meters with a lot of physical strength.
He can also score from very far away, over time he has become a more consistent shooter from medium and long range. He has incredible range and is always more efficient in finishing than him. If we’re just talking about attack, I really don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone like Luka.”
Doncic leads the NBA with 33.9 points per game, is second in assists (9.8), second in three-pointers made (4.1), third in triple-doubles (21), seventh in steals (1.4), and 16th in rebounding (9.2).
Furthermore, Luka shoots 48% from the field and 38% from beyond the three-point arc, and his Mavs crossed the 50-win mark and captured their first Southwest Division title since the 2020-21 season.
Numbers that should allow him to compete for the MVP, despite coach Kidd’s skepticism on the issue.
“Some people think his game is too simple, too easy, he’s the one who makes everything seem too easy, unfortunately. That’s what happens with some of the greats, when you talk about people like Michael Jordan… Their talent is taken for granted. And to think that Doncic is only 25 years old and is playing like no one else….”.
