South: BaWü derby for defending champions / home opener in Regensburg and Haar

Matchday two is coming up in the new season of the 1st Bundesliga South. Three teams, Stuttgart, Regensburg and Haar, are celebrating their home premieres. It starts with the BaWü derby between the Reds and the Heidenheim Heideköpfen. The first encounter begins on Friday at 6 p.m. in Bad Cannstatt. Game two takes place on Saturday (2 p.m.) at the Brenz. Also on Friday evening (7 p.m.) the Guggenberg Legionnaires welcome the Mainz Athletics in Regensburg. On Saturday (2 p.m.) there will be the second edition between the Upper Palatinate and the first league leaders of the current season. The match day is rounded off with the meeting of the Munich-Haar Disciples and Hünstetten STORM on Saturday (1 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.).
Heidenheimer Offensive also wants to make a splash in the derby
The defending champions from Heidenheim got off to a perfect start in front of their home crowd in the top game against Regensburg. However, the brilliant start with four home runs in game one was immediately followed by the first defeat. In the derby against Stuttgart, the Heideköpfe now want to get back on the road to success. The seven-time champion will probably have to do without new signing Nate Thomas again. Ace pitcher Dalton Duke from Schamann is not expected until June. The offensive was already as strong as usual.
Stuttgart expects the highest caliber at the home opener
Like their local rivals, the Stuttgart Reds started the 2024 season with a split. The Swabians secured victory in game one against Hünstetten (13:9). In the second meeting, the “Reds” lost 3:4. Regensburg home opener with a tailwind
The Guggenberg Legionnaires had to accept a first setback at the start. Well recovered from this, the Regensburg team struck back immediately and secured their first respectable success against the champions. At least the second win should follow at the home premiere against Mainz. The newly formed attack with Terrell Joyce, Antonio Torres and ex-Mainzer Marlon Jimenez already underlined its qualities in week one. Devon Ramirez will also be joining us this week.
Mainz travels to the Danube as league leaders
The only undefeated team after the first matchday is Mainz Athletics. In the double win against the Munich-Haar Disciples, the “Green-Yellow” showed no weaknesses at home. The first coup should now be achieved away from home. The new additions Peter Saldana, thrower Scott Bellina and U18 national player Kenny Fermin fit in well. The long-established Peter Johannessen and Will Kilgore form the heart of the offensive in the first year after the retirement of club legend Max Boldt.
Haarer are hoping for their first win against the favorites
The Munich-Haar Disciples are pushing for their first win of the season. In Mainz the offensive still had room for improvement. Three runs from nine hits were the meager return in the two games in Rheinhessen. On the pitcher’s mound, player-coach Ryan Bollinger celebrated his return to last year’s quarter-finalists. Hünstetten STORM continued on matchday 1 where it left off in the previous season: annoying the big boys. This time, after Stuttgart, the Munich team will stumble over the underdog, who prevailed in the relegation against Mannheim and Gauting last year.
