Slovakian goalkeeper Samuel Hlavaj, who spent this season in extra-league Pilsen, is fighting for the NHL – he signed a two-year rookie contract with Minnesota. Wild reported about it on their website.
The 22-year-old goalkeeper was never drafted, but he already has experience in overseas hockey. He spent less than three seasons there as a junior. He first caught in the USHL for the Lincoln Stars, then in the QMJHL for the Sherbrooke Phoenix.
After returning to Europe, he worked for two years in the Slovan Bratislava organization, from where he moved to Pilsen last summer. In the extra league, he played in 28 games of the regular season, had an average of 3.1 conceded goals per game and a success rate of 90.3 percent. In the preliminary round of the playoff with Litvínov, he then got a chance in two duels.
