Second day of Europei di Saarbrücken 2024 in badminton which saw no Italians present. A Tuesday entirely dedicated to doubles: between men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
In the men’s doubles there were no big surprises: the number 5 seeds, the Scots Dunn and Hall got the better of the Norwegian pair Flaatten and Rikheim with a score of 21-9, 21-13. The number 7 seeded pair made up of the Danes Lundgaard and Verstergaard also advance, beating the Germans Jansen and Neumann with a score of 18-21, 21-12, 21-14. The pre-match withdrawal of the German duo Lamsfuss and Seidel (seeded number 4) who will not play this tournament has already been announced.
No surprises in either women’s doubles as regards the seedings: ahead of the Turkish Ercetin and Inci, number 8 in the seeding, winners 21-14, 21-17 over the English Harris and Lado. The Swedish Sjoo sisters also advance after beating the Czechs Horinkova and Zuzakova 21-8, 21-12. The Germans Efler and Lohau didn’t have any problems either.
In the mixed doubles the number 5 seeds Ellis and Smith (England) did not disappoint expectations: 21-10, 21-14 over Cybulski and Marczak. Forfeit instead for the Germans Lamsfuss and Lohau (seeded number 6) and the most obvious surprise was the defeat of the seeds seeded number 7, the Danes Verstergaard and Busch, defeated by Hemming and Van Leeuwen (England).
