Venezuelan Judokas Compete in Pan American and Oceania Championships in Rio de Janeiro

Venezuelan judo participates from today, April 26 to 28, in the Pan American and Oceania Judo Championships that will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The fair has more than 198 competitors from 28 countries and two continents registered.

Willis García will be present for Venezuela, for the gentlemen, in the 66 kilogram category. García is in box 98 of the world ranking of the International Judo Federation (IJF), with 468 points.

While, for the ladies there will be three representatives: Anriquelis Barrios, in the 63 kg, and position 33 in the RM; Elvismar Rodríguez, in the 70 kilos, and – until now – the only Creole judoka within the classification zone in position 12 with 3662.

The national Amarantha Urdaneta will also join, at +78 kilos, and located in box 31 of the RM with 1469 points.

The continental competition in Brazil will take place in the sports stadium of the Arena Carioca 1 Olympic Park, in Rio de Janeiro.

Classification system. The Olympic qualification period for judo, which began on June 24, 2022, will close on June 23. The places will be distributed in each of the seven categories by gender to the best 17 countries in the world ranking. This quota will be complemented with 100 additional tickets that will be assigned according to the continental representation to the athletes with the highest points. This “wild card” will have a maximum of one quota per National Olympic Committee.

There will also be 15 more quotas that will be assigned according to the principle of Universality, by the Tripartite Commission.
