Badminton club re-established after 9 years
The badminton club was revived at Daeryong Middle School in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do.
On the 17th, Daeryong Middle School held a men’s badminton club inauguration ceremony in the school’s multipurpose room. Daeryong Middle School’s badminton club was re-established nine years after being disbanded in 2015 due to problems with the supply and demand of players. Teacher Seong-gu Kim serves as the coach, and Coach Won-bok Lee instructs the players. The team consists of four first-year students.
After the disbandment of the badminton club at Daeryong Middle School, there was no badminton club in middle schools in the district, so elementary school players often transferred to other areas to continue playing sports or stopped playing. Accordingly, the Gangwon Provincial Office of Education contacted schools last year to promote the establishment of a badminton club, and when Daeryong Middle School decided to form one, it went through preparations such as remodeling the multi-purpose room.
Daeryong Middle School Principal Jeong Yong-ho said, “We will spare no effort in providing support to create an environment in which our school’s badminton club student athletes can demonstrate their potential and provide systematic training.”
At the founding ceremony on this day, about 100 people, including players, parents, and Chuncheon City Sports Council officials, attended to celebrate the founding. The founding ceremony was held in the following order: declaration of founding, introduction of coaches and players, inauguration speech, and congratulatory speech.
