León City Council Shows Support for Cultural Basketball Team in Promotion Fight

Sitting in the chairs usually occupied by the councilors of the León City Council, the players of the Cultural and Deportiva Leonesa basketball team waited for the mayor of León, José Antonio Diez, who appeared to show them the support of the council in their fight for promotion to LEB Silver.

«If you are here, it is for a reason. I like to receive the teams that are fighting for great challenges to value your effort and work,” said the councilor who, in front of the squad, wanted to remember the tradition in the world of basketball in León: “It is what the club needs and the city. León is basketball and we are where we are due to circumstances, but important foundations have been laid to return to what we were.

With that message of nostalgia for a splendid past that, they hope, they will achieve again, the first step is the promotion to LEB Plata. La Cultural, after winning the group A championship, faces this promotion phase with ambition. «It is an honor and a responsibility to represent this elite army. This is the result of all your work,” said the CEO of Cultural, Natichu Alvarado.

“We will do everything to support hosting the phase”

The León City Council has shown, in this way, its support for the Cultural project, which hopes to be able to celebrate a promotion to LEB Plata on Sunday, May 12, and, hopefully, in León. The city wants to be one of the two venues for this promotion phase. “We are going to put everything we need to put here to support it,” said Diez, who has confessed that it has been a “difficult” season due to not being able to use the Palace: “We know that the fans have suffered, but we are going to have a very worthy scenario for the next season.

The captain of the Cultural, Rodri Llamas, greets the Sports Councilor, Vicente Canuria.

“We will do everything possible so that the promotion phase is here,” the mayor insisted, a wish that Alvarado has joined: “We want the phase and we are going to fight for it to show what we are as a city, as a province and as a region.” . And, if we can’t bring her, we are not going to leave anything to chance, we will fight every game.

«The most difficult thing remains, but also exciting»

Grateful for the “commitment and support”, the team coach and its captain, Luis Castillo and Rodrigo Llamas, have appealed to give “value” to what has been achieved so far, being aware that “the most beautiful thing remains, but also the more exciting.” “We will give our best,” said Llamas.

In the current squad, only Fábrega – with the Barça reserve team -, Sergio Martínez and Miguel Domínguez – with Agustinos León have competed in a promotion phase. “It is something new for many,” said Llamas, to which Castillo stated that they will have to “control emotions in games that will be demanding.”

With the groups yet to be defined, they have already begun to watch videos of the rivals at the expense of knowing if they will play the phase in León: “It would be very important, because we feel supported and in difficult moments they will give us one more point. “We have enthusiasm and desire, knowing that it is difficult, but that the fans will respond.”
