HALF: 0-2 for Westerlo
Despite an eager start by KV Mechelen with Slimani who again made himself noticed several times by being the point of contact that Hasi’s team needed, it was Westerlo that was able to score first. Two goals followed each other in quick succession. First the young Alcocer thanked his coach for the first starting spot this season, a minute later Vermant mercilessly scored the 0-2. While freewheeling, the Gamecocks played their way to further opportunities, but neither Reynold, nor Yow, nor Alcocer again could deepen the score.
At the end of the first half, Vermant was sent to the side unrelentingly and too severely, after receiving two yellow cards in succession. First he refused to step back during a free kick, then he asked for an explanation, but this was not appreciated by the young referee Arthur Denil who has little experience in the highest football class.
