The Franco-Ivorian Evan Ndicka was evacuated on a stretcher after suffering (cardiac?) discomfort during the Italian championship match between “his” AS Rome and Udinese.

The match between Udinese and AS Roma, counting for the 32nd day of the Italian Championship, was stopped on Sunday after the discomfort of a Roma player, Evan Ndicka, who “feels better», announced his club. Ndicka collapsed in the 70th minute complaining of severe pain in his heart. His teammates immediately called the club’s medical staff, who were quickly joined by the emergency services equipped with a defibrillator. Ndicka, who always remained conscious according to images from the DAZN platform, was quickly evacuated on a stretcher and gave a thumbs up to indicate that he was fine.

AS Roma indicated on its X account (ex Twitter) that the player “felt better and was in good spirits” and published a photo of Ndicka sitting in his hospital bed, brandishing his right fist, his face calm. “He will remain under observation in the hospital» where he received a visit from his coach Daniele De Rossi and his captain Lorenzo Pellegrini, before their departure for Rome, Roma added. The latest exams exclude, according to the sports daily the Gazzetta dello Sportthat he suffered a heart attack.

Match to be completed

The referee decided after long minutes of discussions with the Roma staff to stop the match, a decision which was greeted with applause from the spectators at the Bluenergy Stadium. The score was 1-1 when the match was stopped. According to Italian Football League regulations, the match will resume in the 72nd minute on a date yet to be determined. Normally, the end of the match takes place twenty-four hours after it was stopped, but Roma plays their Europa League quarter-final second leg against AC Milan on Thursday. AS Roma is fifth in the Serie A standings (56 pts) and Udinese 15th (29 pts).

Aged 24, Ndicka, trained at Auxerre in France, joined Roma last summer after five seasons in Germany at Frankfurt.
