Qualification Criteria and Italy’s Athletes for Paris 2024 Olympics

A long qualification path will take the athletes to Paris 2024 Olympics. Often, in various disciplines, obtaining a pass for the Games appears even more complex than winning a medal in the five-hoop event. The reason? The territorial criteria, which favor universal participation and provide for the presence of all continents, they mean that Europe is almost always at a disadvantagewith the result that important teams often stay at home (the Setterosa of water polo knows something about this…).

At Tokyo 2020, Italy had reached the record figure of 384 qualifiers: Will it be possible to do better in the French capital? The objective is certainly to try, even if the performance of team sports will clearly have a decisive impact.

In several disciplines the acquisition of a pass is attributed to the nation and should therefore not be considered nominal. What does it mean? Which, paradoxically, an athlete can obtain the Olympic card which allows Italy to take part in the Games, but in his place the coaches could call up another compatriot if they deem it appropriate: this is the case, for example, of skeet shooting and target shooting.
