Phoenix Suns Extend Grayson Allen’s Contract for $70 Million, Securing Key Player for Next Four Seasons

For weeks now, Matt Ishbia insisted on his intention to ensure Grayson Allen’s continuity for next season. And understanding that there is no better time to boost the player’s morale than at the gates of the playoffs, the Phoenix Suns have announced that the shooting guard is extending his contract for $70 million for the next four seasons.

This season Allen has proven to be the fourth most important piece of Arizona. Sometimes, given the casualties, even the third. The 13.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3 assists he has averaged are all career highs. As well as the 46% accuracy rate from three-point range with which he has led the entire NBA this season.

The extension has important consequences on the immediate salary future of the Suns, who commit $206 million to just six players while waiting to negotiate with Royce O’Neal and for Eric Gordon to decide what he does with his player option. The figure exceeds the luxury tax threshold projected for 24-25 by 50 million, which means paying up to 105 million in these tax rates. For now, the ceiling of the league.

The recently signed collective agreement limits the movements of the teams that transfer the so-called ‘second apron’, which will be placed at 189 million. This almost forces teams built as contenders for the ring and with large salary masses to try to keep their core strong at all costs.
